• Never keep your PIN code and your card in the same place. Find a smart way to remember your PIN.

 

• Always hide the card cryptogram. The card’s cryptogram or CVV code is the code found on the back of the card, generally consisting of three digits. When carrying out transactions on POS, make sure to hide the code with your finger, thus protecting confidential card information against fraud or theft. You can also memorize it and highlight it with a black marker, to prevent fraudulent transactions on the Internet.

 

• Subscribe, at the bank, to the transaction notification service by email or SMS. Thus, even when you are traveling outside the country, you will be constantly informed of any transaction carried out on your card.

 

• Make sure your card has 3D secure technology. Thus, by making online purchases, payment can only be made when you enter a secret code or OTP code (One-Time-Password, or one-time password) which will be sent to you, by SMS or by email. This will protect you, even if someone has your cryptogram, since you will still be alerted that a fraudulent attempt has taken place on your card and you will be able to put an end to it.

 

• Be sure to place your orders online on secure sites. Start by checking that the site shows “https” at the beginning, with “S” indicating that the site is secure.

 

• Always connect to a private Wifi network, and check the opinions of other users of the same website online.

 

• You can switch to using a virtual card, rather than a physical card. A virtual card is a prepaid card, therefore financed in advance, which only exists on your phone. This will allow you to protect your bank account, since a virtual card is not linked to any bank account. However, protecting your phone data is key because the virtual card only exists on your mobile phone.
